Guide to bees of Britain

Why buy this book?

This is a neat little leaflet if you want to identify the main UK bee species - perhaps in the garden or out walking - but you don't want to carry around a heavy text book.

  • An 8 page , laminated chart that shows 28 species of bee

  • It shows the "big 6" bumblebees - the commonest bumbles such as the Red-tailed bumblebee and the Buff-tailed bumblebee

  • It shows common examples of mining bees, leaf cutters and mason bees too - often overlooked but still likely visitors to your garden

  • Each species has a grey silhouette next to the illustration to show actual size

The reverse of the bee pictures gives an introduction to bees. It also has a table that lists the featured species with their flight season and some identification notes.

There are over 250 species of bee in Britain. Most bees need microscopic examination to identify properly BUT if you want a quick reference to help with those you'll see most often, then this is for you.

It's great for kids too and being laminated, it can take a bit of wear and tear.

If you want to get into more detailed bee identification, I'd recommend Field Guide to the Bees of Great Britain and Ireland by Steven Falk. At 432 pages it will give you all the bee related identification info. you're ever likely to need!

Just so you know - Recommendations are my own, based on personal experience of reading/using the book. It would be great to sell the book direct but as a small business this is hard to do so Harry's Honey is a participant in Amazon Associates LLC. This is an affiliate advertising programme. It is designed to provide a way for sites to earn fees by advertising and linking to and of course, a way to make the books we love available to you.
